2006 Sport Camp Barada was an intensive three day training camp which brought together a range of sporting and social activities for the 120 participants from; Slovenia, Croatia, Ireland, Austria and Netherlands.
The camp was held in Rogla which is situated in the western reaches of the Pohorje mountain range, in the north-eastern region of Slovenia, 40km from Maribor and 95km from Llubljana. The surrounding Pohorje countryside is renowned for its natural beauty, with many scattered plateaus, waterfalls, forests and lakes. The camp was the first opportunity for many of the participants to train at such altitude 1,517m above sea level, which took some getting used to.
The training sessions available were; Taekwon-Do, Kickboxing, Boxing, Cage Fighting, Tae Bo, Pilates, Bianbox and Power Training.
Taekwon-Do training sessions, covered pattern and sparring were led by; Master Wijnand Tapilatu VII Dan from the Netherlands, Tomaz Barada V Dan from Slovenia who was 3 times ITF World Champion, 6 times Kickboxing World Champion and Ales Zemljic, 2004 ITF European Champion -80kg. Boxing training was instructed by Dejan Zavec from Slovenia who is the current IBF and WBO Intercontinental Champion with a record of 20 wins from 20 fights.
Cage Fighting sessions were led by Zelg Galesic, 2001 ITF World Champion -80kg who is now active in professional mixed martial arts with 10 wins from 11 fights. The Tae Bo, Bianbox and power training sessions were led by Bianca Barada Tapilatu former ITF European and World Champion -52kg.
The facilities at Hotel Rogla were excellent and very good value for money, hotel or cabin accommodation was available with all meals included. Also available was swimming, jacuzzi, sauna, massage plus hiking and mountain walks/runs.
Aside from very tough training sessions there was a good social aspect with a White Party on Saturday night organised by Bianca Barada Tapilatu.
There was 11 people in total from ITA and INTA participating at the camp. One of the most popular participants was Mr. Aidan Walsh V Dan. Mr. Walsh was the fifth Irish person to grade for black belt and has been actively training for 42 years, he is in excellent physical condition and is an example to us all of the benefits of Taekwon-Do training. Also training was 2 times ITF World Champion Stephan Tapilatu.
